The 10th anniversary of the Borneo Ultra-Trail Marathon (BUTM) was concluded over the weekend of 11th and 12th of April, 2026 with close to 1,700 participants.

Borneo Ultra Trails would like to thank all participants and everyone contributing to the event. Thanks to YB Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, Encik Effendi Mahany, Encik Justine Giduk and Encik Leprus bin Esuvas @ Giswa for officiating at the flag-off and prize presentation ceremonies. A special thank you goes to Pengetua Zamli bin Mantamin, Guru Besar Macwel Gimbun, Cikgu Jannie, Cikgu Hassan, Cikgu Bandy and all the teachers and students of SMK Tun Fuad Stephens and SK Pekan Kiulu for hosting the venue and providing invaluable assistance during the race. A huge thank you to our volunteers and the race officials for looking after the competitors at aid stations, our communication teams manning remote stations and keeping runners on track, the medical and ambulance teams looking after runners, our photographers capturing the spirit of the event for memories, our sponsors and not least, the local communities along the route who both provide assistance and let us trample through their back yards. We are greatly thankful to everyone – the race could not have been conducted without you! A special thanks goes out to everyone, including villagers and other participants at the scene, for assisting in trying to save the late Robert Petrus. We are truly thankful to everyone involved although the outcome was not what we had hoped for.

It was a hot weekend and many participants found it tough, but to everyone’s credit we recorded no cases of severe heat or dehydration related cases. It was our impression that participants were well prepared and looked after themselves and each other in the hot conditions. We had several participants saying that this BUTM was tougher than the TMBT due to the hot conditions and the many hills. We would like to congratulate all finishers and wish better luck next time for those who did not quite manage to make it through to the finish.

Our next scheduled event is the 14th edition of the TMBT Ultra Trail Marathon – Malaysia’s original 100 km Ultra-Trail run, on 29th and 30th August, 2026. Registrations are open – please note that this is via the new version of Racematix: TMBT 2026 Registration

The next BUTM is set for 3-4 April 2027.
